The Dark Side of the Moon (. From the English “Dark Side of the Moon”) – the eighth studio album by British rock band Pink Floyd, released March 24, 1973. The most successful album, Pink Floyd transformed into a worldwide phenomenon. The second album of volumes of sales in the history of recorded music – the total number of copies sold close to 50 million. Being sold in the UK in the amount of 4.114 million copies, is included in the UK’s top ten best-selling albums in the country, occupying eighth place. He remained in the «Top 200″ US 741 per week, including 591 weeks in a row from 1973 to 1988, several times getting in the first place. It is one of the most famous concept albums of progressive rock.

The Dark Side of the Moon was recorded in the period from June 1972 to January 1973 in London in the company’s studio EMI Abbey Road. In the composition of the musical material and producing all the band members took part, the texts of the songs written by Roger Waters. The album was created using the latest recording technology beginning of the 1970s, including multitreking, analog synthesizers, as well as various effects of magnetic recording. The engineer Alan Parsons, who worked on the album, was nominated for a Grammy Award for “The best album recording technique.”

The album ranked 7th on the list of Top 25 best albums of progressive rock version According to Rolling Stone magazine is the best prog album of all time.
